Lily ran after her brother, leaving her parents and her own things there in their living chambers in the dungeon of the castle. The whole thing was, she didn’t blame Sev for leaving. She had wanted to leave from the moment that she got there. But there was something to be said, at least to Lily, for loving and respecting those who funded your life, and, were in charge of your grades in the subject you wanted to pursue as a career, as her father was. She finally caught up with her brother a little ways down the corridor, “Sev.” she called, slowing down as she made it to him. She rest her arm on his shoulder to catch her breath, though he was taller than she was. “How did you get so far so fast?” she asked, exhaling loudly.

Something about a sixth sense, and knowing his sister pretty well. He slowed his pace a bit as his sister caught up with him, placing her arm on his shoulder. He raised an eyebrow and looked to her with a curious look. “Talent.” Short and sweet and to the point. “Should be thanking me for getting you out of there.” Sev did put weight into loving and respecting his parents, but at the same time, he couldn’t find it in himself to show them that when he saw little of that in return. “I’ll probably have to deal with an earful from Father later.” He chuckled weakly, quite obviously fake. There was something on his mind, and he couldn’t shake it. “Do you ever get the feeling they’re tired of us?” |

Sev insisted that Lily should be thanking him for getting her out of there and she nodded while she continued to catch her breath, “Sure, I know. That was awful. But did you have to do it in some big dramatic outburst that we’re gonna have to deal with now?” she asked. She didn’t want to have to deal with her mom's emotions and her father's disappointment now. She knew they would both come, but drama was also fairly normal for her family. It came with having the parents they did: a werewolf and a infamous potions master. Lily knew this whole thing wasn’t just going to come down to Sev getting an earful from their dad. Lily still would need to go back and get her things later, and she had still ran out and left the dinner. Her breath was finally slowing back to a normal pattern when Sev asked the last question. She turned her eyes up to him, the question catching her off guard. “Sometimes, maybe.” she admitted with a shrug. Though these two twins weren’t exactly easy on their parents. But she could see where Sev was coming from, she thought. “Is that what’s bothering you?”

Oh, Hope was determined alright. Determined to catch the twins first before one or both of them decided to go back to their parent's quarters. She rounded a corner and heard whispering and slipped into a nearby alcove to listen to their conversation.
She had the wisdom of her father and the cunning of her uncle, and she used them well. Her uncle probably didn't know but she's picked up a few things from him as well, especially moving about the castle. But that was also helped by her father, who seemed to know passageways she wouldn't know that were there if she hadn't been following him.
“Do you ever get the feeling they’re tired of us?”
Hope bit her bottom lip. Damn! That was her Aunt's exact fear. Nope, she had to nip this in the bed now. She chewed on said appendage for a moment before popping out suddenly.
"Oi!"

He knew that there were going to be more consequences, but he didn’t really care at the moment. “Well if that’s the price I have to pay to get back to actually important things… then its worth it. You can decide if its worth it to you, I don’t care what you end up doing. What can I say? Father always says Gryffindors are prone to dramatic outbursts.” He rolled his shoulders and slowed to a stop, his dark eyes staring down the corridor. He wasn’t staring at anything in particular, simply staring off into space while he thought hard.
What was their mother playing at, having a family dinner this soon after summer? It wasn’t like anything big would happen the first week at school. It was as if she was clinging to them. Everyone else here didn’t have to deal with their parents here at school – well there were a few people, namely their cousins. It felt suffocating. Especially when nothing was happening, there was nothing to talk about. It was just a waste of time. “It doesn’t feel like they really care. At least they could make an effort to talk about stuff we find interesting. We’re not children anymore, but they keep treating us like children. No wonder you hang out with people Father would hate.”
When he heard Hope’s voice ring out he rolled his eyes and began walking again, completely ignoring his little cousin. |

The annoying thing was, Lily understood her brothers point entirely. Their parents were a lot to deal with, even if they were just being dramatic teenagers. Lily knew every teenager hated their parents at one point, but hers had always been a lot to deal with. Particularly her father. Though Lily never minded her father, for her, it was her mother that drove her through the roof. Not to get her wrong, she loved both of her parents, but she understood her father more. “I guess I just feel like it’s worth humoring them, especially while we’re dependent on their financial support.” Lily was fairly superficial and selfish and she didn't really want to find herself cut off from the family money. Lily gave a little laugh when he mentioned her hanging out with people that her father hated. She knew who Sev was talking about. Harry Potter. She knew exactly how to use Harry against her father whenever she wanted to. “Well maybe you should too. I can help you figure out tons of ways to annoy dad.” if he wanted to be his own person, he had to start somewhere.
Lily heard the voice of their cousin from behind them, a ways down the corridor and she sighed, rolling her eyes too. Sev turned and began to walk away. “Hope, we’re having a private conversation.” Lily growled.

Hope crossed her arms over her chest as she listened to the twin's talk, not liking what she was hearing. They were being entirely too harsh on their poor parents. Perhaps she was biased.
It hurt her to hear them talking like this.
Sev didn't even give her the time of day and she pursed her lips, looking to Lily.
"Well if you'd stuck around long enough to listen, you might have well learned they did have something to say. But as you said, you had to be all Gryffindor and have an emotional outburst."
She sighed, "do you think that's how adults act? How maturity works?"
She scoffed at Lily, "if it's private, perhaps you shouldn't be having it in the hall where people could just walk by."

[attr="class","junior"] [attr="class","rubedo"] [attr="class","urtv"]✎ 451WORDS [attr="class","albedo"]JUST LIKE 「MAGIC」 I'LL BE FLYIN' 「FREE」 | [attr="class","gaignun"]He rolled his eyes. “I don’t care if they cut me off financially. I’ll figure out a way around it. Really only need to worry about the summers, since Hogwarts provides most needs during the year.” Sure, he could agree with that – it wasn’t smart to anger the people providing food and clothing to you. However, he loved them quite dearly and this was a way of him saying that he had enough of being treated like a little kid.
Always expected to behave and be the good boy.
He just wanted to be free to do what he wanted without worrying that their father would be breathing down his neck – or his mother would be waiting in the wings ready to cry and be disappointed at his choices. While Lily might understand their father better, he understood their mother more than their father. Despite the fact he was much like their father, it frustrated him so much – he felt like he was being fit into a hole that his father thought he should fit into and he very much did not want that. Sure, it could all be in his imagination, but it could also be a little bit of his father and a little bit of his imagination at the same time. Or actually what their father was doing. Sev didn’t know for sure, but he just knew it felt like that.
“I wouldn’t be averse to such things, I suppose. I’ve played the good kid role for so long its… difficult to even come up with things that would be considered… not in Father, or Mother’s image of me.” Fake it until you make it, it was almost like that for him, except for the fact he hated it. He liked making them happy, yes, but if it was at the cost of his own happiness? Well, it wasn’t worth it.
Regarding Hope's arrival, there was a low sound that came from Sev, almost a growl, but more of a groan of annoyance mixed with a growl. “Then maybe she should’ve said something instead of guilt tripping us. ‘Go ahead, don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine’. Adults stand up for themselves and don’t just sit around while people treat you like you’re five. Of course, you wouldn’t know anything about that, would you Hope? Content with being daddy’s little girl.” He clenched his fists and slowly released them, his body posture relaxing slightly. When he spoke again, it was in a mutter that would be difficult to hear, “Sorry.” He didn’t mean to being rude to his little cousin, but he was angry. He was annoyed. She was sticking her nose in business where it didn’t belong.

Severus admitted that he might not be opposed to finding his own way to stick out and annoy his parents and a malicious smirk crawled onto the lips of the ravenclaw girl. She had always secretly hoped she could help her brother in this way. Sev was right, he had played the good kid for far too long. Lily rarely pretended anymore, but sometimes she couldn’t hide the fact that she did care. She could see the pain on her twins face whenever they were forced into family situations. It was time he became who he was and who he wanted to be, without trying harder than necessary to please their parents, and Lily had full belief that she could assist beautifully. “Well then let’s show them the real you.” she looked up to him and bounced her eyebrows. Her finger tips itched at the thought of such an idea.
Nothing of what Hope said phased Lily at all, she folded her arms over her chest, standing her own ground. Not only did Hope not understand the situation, but it had nothing to do with her, this was between the twins, they didn’t need their little cousin here right now, regardless of how Lily felt about her. “And what exactly are you doing down here? Eavesdropping on people's personal conversations? Even if a conversation is held in a public place, it doesn’t mean you get to barge into it.” she said. It wasn’t usual that Hope would be down in the dungeons this time at night. She had to be here for a reason, and that annoyed Lily even more. Sev lashed out at her and Lily walked over and stood besides her brother as he did so, her smirk still stationary and her arms still folded. He was right, and she had never been more proud. “Don’t apologize.” Lily shoot her head. “Sev’s right. Our parents or not, we should stand up for ourselves, we shouldn’t be forced to be anything we’re not and if that hurts people's feelings, so be it. That sounds like more their concern than ours.”

Oh, that sounded like a splendid plan. Do things that'll make them upset or angry or annoyed. How adult.
"Okay, sure; I'll agree with that. But did you stand up for yourself and tell them what's wrong, or did you say something cutting and callous and storm out like an angsty teen?"
She crossed her arms at the Daddy's girl comment. "And yes! I am quite content, as I know my father does his damndest to show he cares, even if he has some misgivings. He's a single parent with three children! I'd rather be of help than a hindrance."
She barely caught his apology as she sighed.
"Sure, the two of you think I'm just being a goody-two-shoes and getting after you for treating your parents like they're treating you, but the thing is, if you want progress, you need to make progress."
She sighs, looking between the two of them. "She came to see my father because she was broken; didn't know what to do; she and your dad think the two of you hate them -- they're trying so hard. And she was worried. She's afraid you two will think they're abandoning you..."
Hope sighed. "You've got another little sibling along the way."
She shook her head, "I'm only telling you this, in hope that you might see things through her eyes. Even just for a moment."
She shifted her bag on her shoulder, "there, I've said my piece. If you take it into consideration, good for you, if you don't, well... that's on you."
She shrugged and began to leave.

[attr="class","junior"] [attr="class","rubedo"] [attr="class","urtv"]✎ 562 WORDS [attr="class","albedo"]JUST LIKE 「MAGIC」 I'LL BE FLYIN' 「FREE」 | [attr="class","gaignun"]He’d smirked a bit when his sister had agreed to help him out. He was a proud person and so asking for help was something that was hard for him to do – but he was trying to do that more. After all, it was one thing to go at things alone, but he knew he couldn’t last like that. No one could. He had looked at all those around him, wanting to not feel so alone. There were people he got along with, and sometimes would hang out with, but he always felt so robotic. He was thankful he had his sister, even while at times he was quite annoyed by her or disliked her. They were twins and there for each other despite everything. He didn’t hate their parents – he loved them dearly. He was just angry all the time because of just how everything turned out.
“If they wanted to know what was wrong, they should’ve asked instead of sitting there with those looks on their faces,” He rolled his eyes and paused his steps again. “It’s different; your father doesn’t look like a fucking statue all the time and your mother’s dead instead of a fountain of emotion. Not saying I wish Mum was dead, just saying that you don’t understand how it is to deal with those two. You never know if Father is proud or disappointed in you. You never know if what you’re going to say is going to make Mum happy or sad. It’s like one of those muggle roller coasters.” The anger could be seen on his face, potent coming from someone who tended not to show much emotion most of the time.
“You don’t understand the pressure of having to succeed in what they think you should, while sidelining what you really want to do, else risk disappointing them because you’re not the perfect little kid waiting hand and foot to do everything they imagine for you. Just because you are what your father wants you to be, doesn’t mean we all have that luxury.”
His eyes flicked towards Hope as she gave her little speech. Another child? They were going to have a little sibling? “If she wanted to tell us that, then why the hell did she not say ‘Sev, there’s something I want to tell you all, so please if you would sit down for just a moment and then you can leave’? No, instead she treated me like a child and pleaded for me to stay without giving any reason for me to stay!”
He ran a hand through his hair, not used to voicing what was constantly going through his head. He was used to being silent and just dealing with it on his own, and here he was just spouting all of it in front of his little cousin. He was a bit afraid she would run off and tell her father and in turn tell his mother. Then of course his father would find out. And the thing was – he still cared. He didn’t want to hurt them or make them think they were terrible parents. They were good parents. He just needed something else from them. These were his problems to deal with, they needn’t worry about them. Especially if they were having another kid. Because that would mean causing his mother even more stress. |

None of what Hope said impacted Lily even the slightest. She didn’t flinch, her face didn’t change and neither did her stance. Maybe Sev was being harsh, but his words worked just about as well as anything Lily would say. Hope couldn’t understand. Hope didn’t have the same pressure put on her and the same vague parenting style. Lily had gotten the highest score possible on her potions OWL, yet her father still didn’t seem to think her work was ever good enough. That wasn’t something that someone like Hope, with a supportive father, could understand. Lily didn’t even blink at the knowledge that her mother was with child, if anything, it was more annoying than anything else. It was just another life for them to mess up. Lily would get stuck trying to help another sibling overcome the mental and emotional trauma of growing up a Snape. “If they wanted to tell us they would have told us. Doesn’t really affect us too much, now, does it?” If anything, it would mean their mom wouldn’t be staying at Hogwarts long, since she couldn’t have a baby in the castle. That was a relief at least. “They can focus on the new kid and let us be.” she nodded to Severus. Lily made no effort to talk to Hope, she didn’t really want her to stay, obviously this was something she and Severus needed to talk about, Lily still didn’t feel like Hope had any place in any of this.

Her feet froze.
Did he really just go there?
Oh, so her mother was dead so she couldn't be empathetic, that was it? Her lips pursed and she turned on her heel, facing her cousin.
"You're right, I don't. Because I've actually had a conversation with my father!"
She frowned. "The two of you need to take a chill pill."
Her eyes darkened, "perhaps she was trying to, but instead the two of you decided to act like brats! Again, if you tried to look at it from her perspective, you might learn something!"
Her emotions had gotten too high. She needed to walk away before she ended up doing something she regretted.
"But fine, don't listen. I was only trying to help. But I suppose I'm just a kid to you still and you're both full grown adults."
She set a glare on them that rivalled their fathers and she stalked off before they could say anything more to her. She needed to get to bed, anyway.
