Hermione hadn’t seen Harry or Ron all morning, or any of her friends. She only had a small circle she wasn't the most popular preferring books over people. However, it did worry her sometimes. She needed that reassurance sometimes by them. Though her morning had been rather pleasant she found herself in a free period. Usually, she would have taken herself off to the library to swap books or look at new ones she hadn't got to read this year. However, she was going in the opposite direction to the Great hall. It was usually filled with a few busybodies, chatting playing wizard chest, that type of thing.
Hermione clutched a stack of books to her chest as she walked in, naturally walking over to the Gryffindor table about half way up finding a spot and putting her books down. Her eyes gazed around the hall, she was right. Well when wasn't she, a couple of fourth years were the only others at the Gryffindor table when she arrived smiling down their way as she sat. Hermione let out a little sigh she didn't know what to do really. She sat and looked at the books and chewed on the inside of her mouth as she thought. This wasn't the best place to be doing homework she thought. Hermione's mind flickered to her bag and the letter she received earlier that week from Krum with the start of the new school year she hasn't got back to responding to him. Riffling through her bag she came to the letter. Pulling it out she looked around yet again, like she was on a secret mission, just to make sure no one was looking over her shoulder. Hermione re-read the letter getting a clean bit of parchment out and a quill, she hunched over the desk head down thinking of her response and she doodled at the edge of her paper like she usually did when thinking. She was lost in her own world.

[attr="class","junior"] [attr="class","rubedo"] [attr="class","urtv"]✎ 461 WORDS [attr="class","albedo"]JUST LIKE 「MAGIC」 I'LL BE FLYIN' 「FREE」 | [attr="class","gaignun"]Sev had one of those free periods that happened from time to time. During these times sometimes he would head up to the common room and do some homework – but his next class was his father’s down in the dungeon. That would mean walking all the way up and then back down to get to class after this free period ended. So instead, he made his way to the Great Hall slowly, his book bag over his shoulder and he looked around for a bit. Sometimes he would sit with the Gryffindors, and others he’d just sit on the floor in a corner. Ever since he was sorted into Gryffindor, he felt like he didn’t quite belong. Possibly due to the fact that his last name was essentially cursed when it came to his fellow lions.
His father wasn’t biased towards him or his sister in class – some might think with how he treated Slytherins he would treat them biased as well. However, in a lot of ways he was harder on him and his sister than even the Gryffindors. There was a lot of pressure when it came to potions for the set of twins, but at least they were able to live up to those expectations. He was a good father; kind, understanding, but also hard when needed. His expectations were never something that Sev felt were unreachable, at least.
When he glanced around the Great Hall, he saw Hermione Granger sitting there, hunched over reading what looked like a letter. He assumed it was from her parents. He looked to the side and bit his lower lip. He’d admired her ever since their first year, but it wasn’t until recently he could feel his heart racing when he looked at her. He’d asked his father about the reaction – without revealing who he had felt such a thing towards – and had been told that it was a crush. It made sense too. She was incredibly beautiful, and he was just… well, he was a Snape. He knew he didn’t stand a chance, but even then, he couldn’t stop his heart from leaping when he saw her. Sometimes he could even feel his cheek turn red and burn slightly.
However, he was usually good at being able to hide such reactions, much like his father. He cleared his throat and then slowly walked over to her. He had been meaning to talk to her lately. He stood in front of her and cleared his throat again to get her attention. “Granger.” He gave her a nod. “Is this seat taken?” He indicated a seat near her. “I would… like to speak to you.” God, that sounded so formal. He was beating himself up inside for sounding like such a prat. |

Hermione was in a world of her own in her head as some would say. When she heard someone across from her and as her name was being muttering. A bit serious in tone, she thought she had forgotten something as her head shot up and her hand dropped her quill. Her eyes set upon Sev a fellow Gryffindor and son to the potions professor. A sigh of relief washed over her mind. Glancing down to her piece of paper she turned over the letter from Krum and placed her hand on her own response. So Sev could not see who she was corresponding to. “Yes..no go ahead sit, what is it that you need?” She queried as she looked at the rather shy boy from her house and classes. He was not a bad looking boy either. She had never been interested in boys before a year ago it was all about studying. However lately she had been noticing them even more. Sometimes she hated it though. Hermione tried to push the boy thoughts to the side and focus on the here and now.
Her mind ticked over things that he would possible what her for. It wouldn't be for homework help or anything would it? He was not a student like Ron who she wondered how he passed through his exams really. He was a rather bright student. So what was he wanting her for she was a Prefect it could be something like that. He had sparked her interest. She smiled up at him as he sat. “You have sparked my interest, “ She said. Keeping her hand over her paper. With him sitting so close she didn't want her little secret slipping out. Though Krum would like to shout it from the roof sometimes.

[attr="class","junior"] [attr="class","rubedo"] [attr="class","urtv"]✎ 360 WORDS [attr="class","albedo"]JUST LIKE 「MAGIC」 I'LL BE FLYIN' 「FREE」 | [attr="class","gaignun"]Severus’s eyes glanced at the letter she had turned over and then the one she covered. Perhaps she thought he would spy on whatever she was writing. He couldn’t imagine what sorts of things she would write to her parents, but given she was a muggle born, he had a feeling it was about magical things. Or something like that. He didn’t really understand girls in general. Hell, he didn’t understand guys either. He didn’t understand himself. Either way, whatever it was, she didn’t want him to read it and so he looked away, his eyes not going back to it, despite his curiosity. After all, it was respectful not to spy on something personal.
He swallowed and looked to the side. He could feel the nerves rising up in him. Why did he react like this? When he was around Potter, he wasn’t shy, necessarily. He just never had anything too much to say to him. It wasn’t like Potter would care anyways, but he did care about what Hermione thought of him. His throat went dry and looked to the side. He puffed out his cheeks and quickly looked back to her, a bit of worry in his eyes. Normally his eyes were dark and betrayed nothing of what he was feeling, but this time a little bit had slipped on through.
“How do you make friends?” As soon as he said it, he was beating himself up inside. He looked away with a very light blush on his cheek. “W-What I mean to say is…” He cleared his throat and looked back, calming his rapidly beating heart. “You’re quite popular. You have quite a few friends – from across years and house bounds. I have a few here and there, but…” It seemed this was a bit of a hard thing for him to voice – normally he was so coherent when he spoke. His words were smooth, and thought out, but right now they were quite rushed and not quite as eloquent. “I don’t want to be popular, don’t get me wrong. There’s someone specifically I would like to get to know and I just don’t know how.”

As Hermione looked at Sev she thought she was hearing things had he just asked how to make friends. If she would have had a drink in her mouth she would have to spit it out all over him. To say she was a little shocked was an understatement. He was in her year should he had something. Heck, she had friends though if it wasn't for Harry and Ron helping her out from a bully in the second year she thought about if she really would have friends. She met Ginny through Ron and got close and Luna through Ginny. So she probably wasn't the right person to ask. “Sorry” She cracked a smile she didn't know how to fraze it. “I think you're asking the wrong person, I have a hand full of friends at best,” Her eyes dropped from Sev. Hermione felt her cheeks began to go red. She didn't really like admitting that about herself she liked to show the world she was a strong individual. She didn't like not being able to help him more so she racked her brains a little and thought hard like how she made her friendship grow with Ron and Harry.
“OK so let me think,” She said pushing her things back into her bag to have her full attention on Sev. “Hobbies are a good start, do you have any?” She felt a little bad asking him that question he was in his year, she should have known him a little better. She had 6 years with him. But when she did think about it he always slips out of her mind. A strange feeling swept over her gut when she thought more into it. She could have been like him alone most of the time. Her mind had been going over what he had been saying and she finally acknowledged the last bit there was a specific person he wanted to know more about.
Now she was not one for gossip, besides with Ginny, Luna sometimes joined in but Hermione always thought she was on another planned to her. “I’m not one to gossip but this specific someone is it, someone, you are interested in? In like a romantic way?” She asked trying not to smile . She was trying to be politically correct as their where many people in Hogwarts that had different sexual orientations.
