[attr="class","box2"]This summer had been one heck of a whirlwind. It felt like the beginning of the summer was years ago. Of course, he would come home to raise his children, but he had no time to talk with anyone else really, not his friends, his sister, or even Dumbledore in general. He had been tasked with finding packs of werewolves – and at first, he was going to refuse the request. He had enough of that when he was younger, with his father.
Plus, he had a reason to live: he had his three kids. Wonderful, beautiful children. Well, other than of course his family and friends – they were there too. Family, meaning his sister. Regardless, Dumbledore did not want him to find the packs that were attacking others and trying to infiltrate to imprison them. No, he was tasked with finding the packs that simply wanted to live and giving them supplies that they needed. It was humanitarian work really.
Running a hand through his hair, he began to unpack – after all, he had to teach. He had a job to do. While it was a good thing he was doing during the summer, this job paid. And he would be able to see his children more often than for dinners and sometimes breakfast. They were old enough they could stay at home during the days and be trusted – after all most people had to do that anyways. Especially if they were a single parent like him.
It’d been almost thirteen years since she died. He thought about her fairly often still. Hope looked a lot like her. So did the other two, but especially Hope. Their time together was short, but he didn’t know if he would ever find someone else, he cared about like that. He had crushes over the years, but he never acted on them. He felt too guilty, even if she would probably want him to move on.
Slowly unpacking the picture of Dorcas that he kept on him, he set it on his desk and smiled down at it softly. It was going to be a good year; he could feel it. After lingering on the picture for a moment as she waved at him with her wonderful smile, he began to unpack all his other things. After all, unlike some of the professor, he didn’t live here at Hogwarts. It was like moving somewhere new for a good part of the year.

So I lay my head back down and I lift my hands and pray. To be only yours I pray, to be only yours. I know now you're my only hope. ►
The summer had been just that. Summer. Full of children. Teenagers to be exact. Dumbledore had Remus off doing some sort of work for a good portion of the summer and while she knew he trusted his kids to take care of themselves... she couldn't help but be... motherly and check in. Make sure there was food for dinner made, and the such. But she didn't stick around, didn't want to seem like she was imposing.
She loved her brother, she did, but he could be an idiot sometimes too.
They, themselves, had just finished moving into their suites within the castle, just for a few days before the school year started, she didn't mind the close quarters. She was bred with pack dynamics and all, and a den was a den.
However, Severus was working on something, and the kids had so-conviently forgot that they had summer homework until just now of course when her husband inquired about their progress on the essay he had assigned. The looks on their faces were priceless.
They had forgotten their father was also their potions master, and it was the most adorable thing, she had to admit it. She had to remove herself from the room before she began to laugh. This led her to taking a walk through the corridors. And by habit, by her brother's office.
She hadn't expected the door to be ajar, but there it was. She stood a few feet away, frozen.
Her lips pursed and with quick strides, she swept her way in much in the same fashion her husband would enter a room, the door slamming wide open against the wall.
"REMUS. JOHN. LUPIN."
Her voice echoed like a howler.

[attr="class","box2"]The sudden slam of the door caused Remus to jump slightly, nearly dropping the quills he was placing on his desk next to some spare paper for making notes on papers he would grade. His eyes quickly looked up at the origination of the slam to catch the none-too-happy face of his lovely sister. Face whitening, he swallowed thickly. This was going to be interesting. His mouth hung open to say something, but then her voice came, and he flinched slightly. Oh boy, he was in trouble.
“That isn’t quite the greeting I was expecting.” He swallowed, chuckling lowly trying to lighten the mood a bit. “I’ve been wanting to thank you for stopping by during the summer to check on the children. I do hope Sirius didn’t give you too much trouble.”
He knew that wasn’t quite why she was angry at him – it was the whole not contacting her the whole summer and leaving his kids for the better part of the day during said summer. However, he still did hope Sirius wasn’t too much of a handful – he knew that Sirius was a lot like his namesake and was a bit of a prankster. It didn’t help that he added in muggle tricks to make them even harder to see coming. Luckily for him, he had two best friends and had been trained to deal with such things. Rose? Well, she had the fact they liked to prank her in school, but perhaps not quite the same experience as he had in the matter.
Swallowing thickly again, he set the quills down next to the ink bottle, which luckily was capped, else it might have ended up all over the table. “H-How have you been?” | [attr="class","box23"] Are you insane like me? Been in pain like me? [attr="class","tagbox12"]Words: 288 |

"They were absolute angels, despite who they have for a father."
Oh, sure, she feigned anger, but, seeing him there, whole, sound, alive, not looking worse for wear, diminished her fury... slightly.
"At least they get the courtesy of having you drop in every fortnight or so. Your sister, perhaps? Not a word."
She sighed. "Sirius knows better to play tricks on me; I'll come back ten fold, he knows this."
She stands there a moment, before finally rushing up to him and throwing her arms around his neck, hanging off of him. "Can't you just for ONCE send me an owl? I know it's nothing dangerous these days, but still. You know how I worry!"

[attr="class","box2"]He gave her an even smile and shook his head, chuckling. Angels? It felt bad to laugh at that, because while he loved his children, he could admit they were right terrors from time to time. But then again, that was just part of it. That was part of raising children – the good far outweighed the bad. Hell, even the bad he didn’t consider bad really, just not as good. Perhaps that was what happened when you were their parent. He had to admit, it was difficult a lot of the time, especially before he got the job here during Hope’s second year (that way all of them were in school when he came to teach). At least now he needn’t worry as much about expenses and jobs. Now he could focus on them specifically, not that he didn’t focus on them before, it was just an additional layer of ‘how am I going to do this’.
“Well, I’m glad to hear they behaved for you. It’d be a shame to have to ground them for misbehaving,” He chuckled again, his voice even, but not tired. Unlike during the war, when he would come back from missions like this looking as if he was on deaths door, he actually enjoyed these things. He could meet people like him who wished they could be like him – and he could offer them a way out of their terrible situation. He was helping people who needed it, who deserved it, and didn’t succumb to Greyback’s influence.
He flinched slightly when she rushed up to him, only because he wasn’t quite expecting her to hug him. He was a little worried he had angered her more than usual this time – then again, that never really happened, to anger her enough to truly make her sick of him. He slowly wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly, his face brightening with a huge grin. “I know, I know. I’m sorry. I got carried away. I didn’t… think.” He paused and pressed a kiss to the side of her head before laying his head against her shoulder once more. “I missed you. I really did.”

She grinned, knowing he caught her bluff there.
His kids weren't hellions. Okay, she MIGHT have a small... miniscule... advantage, and it was her last name. She had picked up some.... attributes over the decade or so, that had most kids sharpening up when she got serious.
Pun not intended.
Or was it?
"Dare anyone misbehave for I, Madam Snape?" she giggles, waggling her eyebrow. His arms wrapped around her and she couldn't help but draw in his scent, to hold tighter. Mama Wolf coming out all at once. She snuffles against his cheek, and she felt her heart calm in her chest, feeling his warmth.
She knew things weren't as dangerous as back then, but him being out there still sent her into fits of worry. Especially when he went dark for weeks on end.
"If you missed me so much, you should write! At least I knew you were eating."

[attr="class","box2"]He snorted as her eyebrows waggled at him. Madam Snape. Even after such a long time he wasn’t sure he would ever get used to it. His little sister and Snape. Sure, he was his brother-in-law, and they had somewhat made up after everything that happened, but there was still a part of him that didn’t trust him. Perhaps it was because for seven years near the beginning of his life he didn’t trust him at all. Even longer, if one counted the two years Severus was a Death Eater before turning to their side. Sure, Severus helped them defeat Voldemort, but there was just something he couldn’t put his finger on…
Yes, it’d been 16 years or so since Voldemort was defeated. But those 9 years of not trusting him was still weighing on his shoulders. People said first impressions were important, and he was pretty sure it was that which he was falling for right now. And would be following for a while. “Even after all this time, it doesn’t feel right to call you Madam Snape.” He sucked in a deep breath, inhaling her scent he had missed all summer, and sighed. Werewolves. And their need to smell. Around anyone else he would feel self-conscious about it and avoid such an obvious gesture. However, they were kindred souls; she understood. “To be fair, you terrified me when you walked in. Reminded me of Severus. Don’t tell him, but there are times he terrifies even me.” Especially when he was angry. Especially when he was angry because of something you did to Rose.
“I know. I should have. I was just… busy. You know how it can be.” He sighed and gave her a quick squeeze before releasing her. “Oh you did? How so? Did Hope tell you? Or perhaps Rem?” To be fair, he understood her worry. There were many times when he stopped eating – sometimes in exchange to make sure his children never were left wanting, and others because depression reared its ugly head and he didn’t feel like eating. | [attr="class","box23"] Are you insane like me? So I lay my head back down and I lift my hands and pray. To be only yours I pray, to be only yours. I know now you're my only hope. ► She heard the snort and rolled her eyes, knowing exactly what that snort was. A disdain which only appeared when she reminded him of her marital status.
It had been a sort of a whirlwind romance, but it had been true. She didn't argue... much, with Remus about everything, and chalked it up to being protective. And, to top it all off, it seemed to have become stronger since Hope was born. She was so much like her mother, but she could see herself in the girl too.
Actually, she would probably eat anyone who approached Hope that was anything like her husband.
Sooo, she could see why the disdain.
She smirked at him, "yes, well. There are not many reasons for you to call me Madam Snape, is there? It be weird and cold for that to come from you."
She clung tighter to him, feeling him take a nice breath. Yes. Breathing was good. Breathing meant living.
"I don't have to tell him, I think he knows," she giggles. "And perhaps I picked that up from him. It does keep teenagers in line."
He pulled away and she pressed a kiss to his cheek. "I do know how it is, doesn't mean I'm not going to remind you every time you don't write, to write. She grinned, "of course they told me. Also because I left things in places only you could find."

[attr="class","box2"]He smirked and shook his head. “Well yes, you do have a point there.” And thank Morgan Freeman for that. He was pretty sure he would very much dislike it if he had to refer to her as Madam Snape as all of the students her were told to do (well, other than his kids who called her Aunt Rose). At least she didn’t teach like Severus did – else they wouldn’t call her quite such a familiar name… After all it wasn’t Uncle Severus, it was Professor Snape from the time Hope first entered school. And before that it was ‘Snape’. Not that they didn’t like their uncle-in-law, but he was sure they could feel the tension any time the two of them were in a room together.
“It does in a way. I would like to say I found a good system of inspiring good behavior in my students. Not necessarily in all intimidation as Severus tends to rely on most of the time.” After all, even with this job, his clothes weren’t the best in the world, but even still many of his students seemed to respect him. And that was a great ego booster for him. And he needed a good ego booster. At least everything seemed to be going right for now. His condition was a secret from everyone it needed to be a secret from, each month he had help from his friends, taking care of the kids, or staying with him. He’d come a long way from when he first had the kids and he was deathly afraid of hurting them or anyone else.
Rolling his shoulders and quickly looking his suitcase and pulling out some trinkets, and even a cage with a Grindylow inside. “Don’t ever stop reminding me. I know how bad I can be about it.” He glanced over at her as he set the cage down and dusting off his hands. “I was wondering where those chocolate bars were coming from.” He laughed as he finally sat at his desk chair, all nice and set up. “Well, Madam Snape, you caught me in the middle of unpacking. However, it seems I have finished. Perhaps we could have a touch of dinner. Catch up on the events of the summer.” | [attr="class","box23"] Are you insane like me? Been in pain like me? So I lay my head back down and I lift my hands and pray. To be only yours I pray, to be only yours. I know now you're my only hope. ► She snickered.
She and Severus were polar opposites. While she could be formidable and scary when needed, she was most of the time, sweet as a rose. Tender and kind. Motherhood had amplified those things for her, as well.
But in that regard, her daughter was very much a daddy's girl. She and Hope were close friends - didn't help they shared a name. But, kindred souls, she and her brother were and both had felt the need to pay respect to their mother. So, both girls shared the name.
Both of them also had a set of twins, too. Which, Rose had found absolutely hilarious at the time.
She laughed, "yes, yes. Kind Professor Lupin. And as far as Severus' intimidation, I think it's just become habit at this point, and it works for him. Perhaps it's not quite right to use fear as a way of gaining respect but it works for him. As your soft smiles and moonlit-eyes work for you."
She grins at him. "Plus, while you have half the female population mooning over you, they leave my surley Potions Master well enough alone."
She watched as he finished unpacking, a smile on her lips. "Well, you'll find me hard pressed to stop doing so, Moons. You know that. Food, certain potions, all of that."
She nods, "I figured the chocolate bars would let you know I was there. But I do hope you partook in the other things, and not just the sweets. Don't make me get after you like I have to do with Sev. Damn sweet tooths."
Unfortunately, it seemed the love of chocolate had bled over into her darling son. Well, it probably didn't help that she had craved everything chocolate when she had been pregnant. So perhaps it was only natural. But boy, put a chocolate cake in front of that boy...
She shook her head with a laugh.
"Sure, I'm always hungry, you know that. A little tea as well, I think."

[attr="class","box2"]He gave her a grin and shook his head with a low chuckle. “Half the female population is not ‘mooning’ over me.” That was one of those things he didn’t really pay attention to. Sure, he’d heard girls talking about him, but they were children – hell at this point there were few that weren’t his daughter’s age or younger. Frankly, he didn’t see what they could see in him – sure, he might have somewhat good looks, though they were worn down by the years taking a toll on him a bit harder than his friends – but it wasn’t like he was that likable in a non-professor-y way. Right?
“If you think my charming good looks keeps the student body from… admiring your husband, I do believe you are wrong. I have overheard… a few of my students talking of Severus.” He pitched his voice up and fluttered his eyelashes. “Have you seen Professor Snape today? He’s so mysterious and handsome and dark.” He laughed throwing his head back, returning to his normal pitch. “I don’t think there’s any attitude that wouldn’t get any admirers from the… impressionable students at Hogwarts, other than my own.”
He gave her a small smile before sighing and leaning back in his chair a bit more, closing his eyes. “I appreciate it. Knowing you’re there for me. To know we have each other’s back. I have been doing well to stay on the potion for awhile now, thanks to Severus preparing it for me. I swear he’s adding something new each time. Gets better and better. Sometimes I almost feel human.”
He stood and offered his hand to her. “Of course, what would dinner be without tea? Are you sure your husband won’t mind me stealing you away for dinner?” | [attr="class","box23"] Are you insane like me? Been in pain like me? [attr="class","tagbox12"]Words: 295 |

So I lay my head back down and I lift my hands and pray. To be only yours I pray, to be only yours. I know now you're my only hope. ► "Please!" she cried in mock affrontation, rolling her eyes. She crossed her arms, shaking her head, about to reply when he dared suggest they be mooning over her husband. She worked her jaw, reigning herself back from asking who these girls were.
Children, that's what.
She snorted, "they may admire, but none of them could handle him every day, as I do."
She smirks. Mysterious and handsome and dark were only the tip of the iceberg that made up Severus Snape, but she dare not discuss particulars with her brother's innocent ears.
"Right, cuz your smoking jackets and oversized sweaters are totally not a thing or a mood at all. "You're like a sexy uncle!"
She giggles, completely unashamed. Her expression sobered, however, seeing him lean back. "Of course I'm there, Remus. What sort of sister would I be if I didn't mother you all the time?" She rolled her eyes. "He is working on making is stronger, it's true. Still got a few tweaks, but it's getting there. Full moons are not so terrible anymore, huh? I'm glad to hear that."
He stood and reached out his hand and she took it easily, threading her fingers with his. "Please. He's in the middle of some potion and making sure Sev and Lily do their essay he assigned this summer.... and somehow forgot to do til now. He won't mind. He seems to always know where I'm at anyway."
She snickers, "like he has a tracer on me, or something."
That said, she pulled him towards his office door, like an excitable puppy, "shall we down to the kitchens? Get the house elves to whip us up something nice? Maybe, if we're nice enough they'll give us a slice of chocolate make to share?"

[attr="class","box2"]He rolled his eyes. “Obviously. They have no idea how Severus can be. I’m sure I don’t either, but I think I have a better idea then those girls.” He waggled his brows before he sighed and rubbing the back of his neck. He shook his head and gave her and even look. “What person calls an uncle sexy? There’s the crazy uncle, but not the sexy uncle.” Regardless, there was a slight blush on his face thinking about it for a moment. What if there were students who had crushes on him? What would he do if someone came to him, as his student and said they liked him like that?
“I’m a single father, and old enough to be their father. They know my children, they’re the same age as my children. I really do not think that my own students would think of me like that.” After all, he was always professional. He was careful not to get too close to any student, even while he was kind and helpful. Well, at least he thought so. Unbeknownst to him there were plenty who thought of him as more than just a professor.
“They aren’t…. as bad as they used to be, no. Even better than when Sirius and James first became animagus. The taste isn’t all that bad either. I remember when I had to choke it down,” He gave her a small smile before he sighed and ran a hand down his face. “I appreciate all you’ve done. And all he’s done. It’s really… helped.”
“Or, perhaps, he just knows you better than almost anyone. Or somehow he got ahold of that map.” He followed the excited puppy out, a grin. He leaned against her a little while they walked. “Well, I was thinking that yes. I’ve missed their cooking over the summer. I’m sure if we ask nicely they’ll allow us some cake. Perhaps even two slices.” He waggled his brows.

So I lay my head back down and I lift my hands and pray. To be only yours I pray, to be only yours. I know now you're my only hope. ► She smirks at him wolfishly. "Absolutely devlish, for the most part, that's what. He wicked man, we know this."
She waited for his reaction at that, knowing it would be amusing. At his question she shrugged, rolling her eyes. "I dunno. The title works on you, all right?"
A sigh, "sixteen-year-olds develop crushes on their teachers all the time. And it's been rare that Hogwarts has had ones as young as you and Severus, so yes, the teens have something to ogle at."
She took his arm, draping it over her shoulders as they walked, putting them closer together, reclaiming his hand with her other now.
"But of course, my word of praise means little."
She gave him a short look of hurt before smirking. "The taste is definately one of the improvements I've noticed the most. Moon tends to vary, depending on if I've had enough sleep or not. But life goes on."
She smiled, squeezing his had. "Of course, you're my brother. And while I know Severus would be sneering at you right now, he does this because it makes me happy. And you living, more than surviving, makes me really happy."
She sighs softly. "I want to make sure you can be there as much for your kids as possible, and not have to be out of commission for days because of a rough night."
She gave him a shrug. "That is perhaps a fact, indeed. Between you and him... you all probably know me better than myself."
She laughs, "glutton. Wanting one for yourself!"

[attr="class","box2"]“Oh I know. People like us tend to be attracted to the… darkness.” He bit his lower lip in a smile. “People are like chocolate. Milk chocolate is great, but perhaps not the kind of chocolate you’d like for the rest of your life. Now, dark chocolate. There’s a bitterness to it that is attractive, and subtleness that sometimes you can’t put your thumb on. Always a surprise when you taste a piece of dark chocolate. But you always want a taste of sweetness in your chocolate as well. Completely dark is too much.” Not that he wouldn’t want milk chocolate every single day of his life, but the metaphor was good enough for him. Even if not completely accurate. Thinking of both the people whom he liked in a romantic way – albeit one had been unrequited – they were both dark in their own ways. Dorcas was a sweet woman, but strong and cunning and ambitious… and sometimes there was a look in her eyes that he couldn’t quite place. Sirius, well that was obvious where his darkness came from. Funny how the less dark one he married and the darker one he simply crushed on. Perhaps he was the dark chocolate in any relationship and needed a bit of 50/50 chocolate to balance himself out. Just a hint of dark.
“You are quite biased when it comes to Severus and me. Your husband and your dear brother. We aren’t spring chickens anymore, Rose. Especially me. We might be the same age, but the stress of just everything has gotten me a few grey hairs. We’re almost forty now. Middle aged. And these girls are teens.” Though he would have to admit, he almost had a crush on McGonagall when he was in school. Almost. It wasn’t really romantic, but respect and romance were easily confused when you were younger and trying to sort through all these different feelings.
He rolled his eyes but continued to smile as her shift in position happened. It was a close position too, not that he minded. He felt… safe. Secure in her arms. And given his… reaction to all the things that happened in the war mentally and before then, that meant a lot to him. “I know. Severus is a good man. Despite everything that happened between us during school, he still helps. While its been a long while and we still don’t quite get along… I have to admit he loves you greatly and I respect him for that. There are times I feel… guilty because I know he only does these things to make you happy. That my happiness and life affect your happiness and therefore his, despite his dislike of me.” He swallowed and sighed. “I do hope we can… get to know each other better and finally forgive each other for… everything. It’s both of us holding onto this stupid school boy grudge.”
A brightness seemed to show on his face and he shook it. “To be fair, you do still surprise at least me still. I didn’t quite expect you to yell at me when you first found me here. I was thinking you’d come in, cry a little bit of happiness and hug me. But that could be just my… extremely positive attitude on everything.” He said that last part sarcastically and he gave her a huge grin and chuckled.
