His eyes were wide and fearful.
Was this just a spectacle for the first years? He assumed so, when Professor Lupin requested him to the first year DADA lesson.
Why was Lupin teaching Riddikulus to first years anyway?
Little did he know, the trickster Professor as most of the kids had dubbed him by now, had much more up he sleeve than they knew.
Neville stared worriedly between the familiar looking armoire and Professor Lupin, chewing the inside of his bottom lip. "Quite honestly, Professor... wouldn't it be more suitable to have like, Potter, or even Granger demonstrate this?"
He was honestly trying to bury his boggart, really....

Lily hadn’t planned on missing potions class, actually, she had just taken a nap after lunch during her free period and slept a little later than she head meant to. In a rush, she threw her bag over her shoulder, leaving her robe lying on the floor of her dorm, and rushed down the stairs, trying to make it to class even though she would be late. Normally, she wouldn’t mind if she skipped a class, it wasn’t a big deal to her, making up the work wasn’t hard, but, she liked Potions class, maybe because she got to show most people up, and annoy her dad at the same time, but still.
As she passed the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom on the third floor, she heard the voice of one of her classmates, who also had potions with her right now, coming from the open door. She peaked in from the doorway, the room was filled with first years all sitting at attention watching her uncle talk to Longbottom about the Riddikulus spell. Lily folded her arms and leaned against the doorway, she had seen Neville in Defense Against the dark arts before, there was no way she was going to miss this.

Hope was never usually late, but she had gotten distracted by her art. She had been sketching the afternoon sun, and well... yeah. Late. And of course, it was for potions class. This was surely going to earn her detention, but as she raced through the halls, passing her father's classroom, she found Lily standing in the door. Her brow raised, curiosity peaked she tapped the girl on the shoulder. "What's going on?"
She peeked into the room as well, looking to her father first and then the boy standing in front; before the gaggle of first years. "Oh, no... what is he planning..."

[attr="class","box2"]Yes, this was on purpose. He couldn’t pass up the opportunity to embarrass his brother-in-law. After all, it would help the first years not fear him as much. There was no conflict of interest. At all. It wasn’t like he wanted to embarrass his brother-in-law because of some old rivalry. Not at all. Remus looked evenly at Neville and then towards the door where he saw two kids watching in on it. The grin was not hidden very well at all when his eyes glanced back towards Neville.
“Of course not. You’re an expert, Neville. Unless you’d prefer to return to potions…” Remus grinned and patted Neville’s back. “I know you can do it. I believe in you.” He walked over the wardrobe he kept the boggart in and waggled his brows. “Now, class, as we have discussed earlier, the Boggart will take the form of what you fear the most. I’ve brought a sixth-year student to help demonstrate how to defeat a Boggart. Ready Neville?” He smiled reassuringly as he tapped the wardrobe and it shook.

Neville was used to not being listened to.
This was just one of those times.
"Professor, please..." he looked back at the wardrobe, swallowing fear and a little bit of bile. Even he knew the even look was a hoax. Neville's eyes slid to the doorway where two girls were looking at him and he cursed, silently, under his breath.
Oh, this was not going to go well. If Professor Snape didn't somehow sense this trick was about to go down, his daughter will surely relay the news...
His hand tightened around his wand. He wished he had never revealed his boggart to anyone.
No, he didn't want to go anywhere near potions now. His shoulders shook at the heavy pats on his back and he looked back towards the grinning Lupin.
"Professor, Really... I'm not an expert...."
Please just let me go...

Lily glanced over at her cousin when she appeared in the doorway alongside her. “He’s got Neville Longbottom demonstrating Riddikulus for the first years.” Lily whispered in reply. Lily knew why, of course, she had been in DADA class with Neville before, his boggart was her father, and it was going to get a rise out of the class and, most importantly, out of her uncle. Lily loved the mischievous side that presented itself in her uncle, she had that sort of a side too that she was sure she got from her mother, though it didn’t seem as present in Hope. Maybe Lily could coax it out.
Professor Lupin insisted that he believed in Longbottom and went over to the wardrobe, before he opened it, he waited for Neville to say that he was ready, which the Gryffindor didn’t do. Lily saw Neville glance over to the door quickly and she bit her lip in the anticipation. Poor thing, but, there was only one way that he wasn’t going to come out of this looking like he wasn’t brave enough… he had to do it. “Think he’ll chicken out?” Lily asked her cousin.

There was a small crowd (of two) forming at the head of the defense classroom and Harry couldn't resist moving over to join the girls, even if he was late. "What's the - oh," his eyes widened as he saw Neville in front of the class. Boggarts were incredibly amazing creatures and their ability to never reveal their true form was fascinating to him. Still, Neville hardly seemed emotionally prepared to take one on. Harry felt kind of bad, why would Remus - professor Like force him to do this? In front of a bunch of first years too. Harry straightened up, brow furrowing, already preparing to run in and rescue Neville if he felt it necessary. He turned to Hope, brow furrowed, in a sort of 'why is he doing this?' look. Neville F. Hope sighed, shaking her head. Honestly. Her father could be a menace when he wanted to be. Both him and her aunt, really. She could see the same mischevious nature in Lily too that she could only expect from being the child of one of the pair of tricksters. Lily, she knew, thought she didn't have this streak in her, but that's where she was wrong. She just didn't use it as often. It was more often than she would prank her little brothers instead - harmless. Nothing like this, which seem to be taking an emotional toll on Longbottom.
"Oh, come now Harry. Surely you know my father better than that? His school-day grudge with Professor Snape? Aren't you James Potter's kid?" she shook her head again, pressing her lips into a disapproving line that would make McGonagall proud. "Father does this all the time when he gets bored. I think it's to mess with both Professor Snape and Rose as well. It's honestly a two-for-one for him."
She crossed her arms over her chest. "I bet you a galleon that Rose will be barreling down this hallway any minute now. She has the talent of sensing when someone is... up to no good."

[attr="class","box2"]Remus sighed, his eyes flicking back to the door and seeing Harry arrive. If he knew his sister, and he was pretty sure he did, it wouldn’t be too long until she got word and would be coming down the hall to put an end to this. Of course, he had a magical excuse for her. No, he needed to encourage Neville. He wasn’t doing this just to get at Snape. It was a pleasant bonus yes, but he also was hoping to work on that confidence problem Neville had from time to time and it was showing as bright as day right here and now in his classroom.
He walked over, placing an arm around the boy and leaning in, whispering so only Neville could hear him. “There’s a good reason I picked you, Neville. Others like Harry or Hermione, well their worst fears are… different. It wouldn’t be a good demonstration to the class. Not only that, but these children have to deal with Professor Snape on a daily basis, I’m hoping with them seeing this, they may not be quite afraid of him. Perhaps prevent them from having this same terrible fear you have, yes? Would it not be better if these children didn’t have the face their worst fear on a daily basis as you do?” Remus gave him an even look and then a slight nod. “You’re right, you’re not an expert. I’m the expert. But I also want these children to see what they could become – it’s hard to simply demonstrate as a professor.”
Also, because my Boggart is the moon and it could tip any of them off to what I am, and so I never show off my boggart to anyone…
“As a professor you’re looked up to and expected to know everything. But if they see a fellow student – not one who is at the top of the class like Hermione, or a Quidditch star like Harry – just a normal student perform well, then it could help them along. Give them the power to think ‘I can do that’. You’re extraordinary, Neville. You’re just as good as Hermione or Harry. I know you can do it. I’ve seen you do it before.”
He leaned back and smiled before walking back towards the wardrobe. “Let’s do this.” He tapped it and nodded at Nevile, the doors slowly opening. | [attr="class","box23"] Are you insane like me? Been in pain like me? [attr="class","tagbox12"]Tag: @everyone [attr="class","tagbox12"]Words: 396 |

Oh god. Was the Harry's voice now at the door?
He chanced a look and yep. There he was. This was turning into a right spectacle if he ever did say so.
Didn't help that A) Lily was adorable. B) Hope was pretty. And C) Well Harry was just plain cool.
He swallowed his fear. Seriously, why was it always him? Granger would've been much more suited to this.
Much more suited and not one to be making a mockery of Professor Snape, that is. She had a normal boggart, and --
As Professor Lupin walked over to him, once more, wrapped his arm around him, and spoke... at that moment, it made a little bit of sense to him. Not that his boggart made Snape any less terrifying to him, it might for these first years. His jaw worked a moment.
Oh, man... Professor Snape is probably the least worry one could have, really.
Neville sighed and raised his wand.
"All right, Professor.... let's do this."
He stared straight at the wardrobe, wand held high... and as the doors slowly opened he swallowed again eyes looking up to meet with the obsidian of Severus Snape.

As soon as Harry Potter appeared by her side Lily Snape knew what was going through his head. He wanted to run in and save the day. He wanted to take this embarrassment away from Neville and demonstrate for the class himself. However, Lily knew what her uncle was doing. Neville needed this, and so did his class. Remus Lupin maybe have had some ulterior motives, but he was doing this for all of their betterment. The fact that the three 6th years were here was simply a coincidence, but overall, would bode well for Neville’s confidence. Lily reached out and grabbed Harry’s arm by his bicep when she saw him tighten up. “No let him do it.” Lily whispered. “We all know he can, we’ve seen him.” She wasn’t sure why she was being so soft about all of this, but it just went to show that she wasn’t always a tough and sassy person.
Neville agreed with her uncle after another glance to the doorway. He readied his wand and the professor opened the wardrobe where the figure of her father slowly stepped out. Lily watched, unblinking, and her hand still gripping to Harry, to see what the Gryffindor boy would do.

Hope suggested her father behaved this way because he was messing with Snape and Rose, which just made Harry tense even more. "If your aunt comes down this hallway we'll be busted for missing class," he suggested, his voice tense. Lily Snape could read Harry like a book. She grabbed his arm and he immediately knew that she was onto him. She said to let him do it, and Harry still grimaced a little. He still felt himself leaning forward, like he was ready to go, but then Professor Lupin spoke. As he did, Harry slowly leaned back, relaxing just slightly. He didn't let up completely until Neville agreed. He let out a breath, "you got this," he muttered. Lily E. Snape Remus J. Lupin Hope L. Lupin Neville F. Longbottom

Hope nodded in agreement.
Neville did need this. Also, it was true, if her aunt did come down this way... they would all be in trouble.
That said, Hope looked down the hall behind them, chewing on her bottom lip before turning her attention back to Neville in the classroom. The good news was, is if any annoying bullies came by they could shut them down quick. Hope also gave a confident nod to Neville as he looked back at them, giving him a smile as well.
"You can do it Neville!" she cheered softly.
Her uncle exited out of the wardrobe and Hope, who would never say this to another soul, except for possibly her aunt, but he did have a charm about him, even as a boggart.
Tall, dark and imposing.... Hope giggled softly.

[attr="class","box2"]Remus couldn’t help the joy spreading on his face as Neville seized the moment and said he was going to do this. Soon the boggart had stepped out of the wardrobe and he couldn’t help the words that fell out of his mouth. “Ah, finally, Professor Snape has come out of the closet.” He had said it loud enough for the whole class to hear, and even snickered at his own joke. There were giggles around the class, though he was pretty sure most of them didn’t even know what that meant. Or perhaps their minds came up with some sort of funny reasoning behind it.
Remus stood beside the wardrobe his eyes flicking towards those at the door and quickly waved them in. “Don’t you three just stand there, if you’re going to watch, you might as well do it and not block the door.” Then again, if they were there to block the door, then it would mean that his sister would have a slightly harder time getting in – or Severus himself. Gods, if Severus came storming through that door, he wasn’t sure he could hold back laughter. He just hoped any sort of cavalry coming to stop him would wait until Neville was done and the whole class got to see what he planned for them.

| ◀ | When do things stop feeling magical? ❤ There were a lot of things she wasn't particularly interested in, but it didn't mean she couldn't appreciate what it had meant to others.
Of everything that was in this castle that she was aware of, the Trophy Room had certainly been one of the places she visited every now and again.
Not really as a pick me up persay. It was hard to be certain when it came to some of the things on her mind, and events she found herself apart of.
There was a lot to look back on with her actions, the words she spoke of, or that which was told to her by others. Good or bad, that feeling she felt with any sort of familiarity she often searched for.
With her house's Prefect sometime ago, it had been wanting to feel the sting different from being hit by a hex. That recognition she had failed to accomplish something, and had to go and pursue some kind of alternative. Something lesser.
Looking at all of these awards of what could have been, she thought more about her current position as the gobstone club president, which had been fairly easy to obtain.
Quidditch had been another option she could have taken. Possibly as a Chaser, but then she couldn't have really sat back anymore to just watch, like she currently did.
What she had now suited her tastes, but she mulled over accepting it just the same. Didn't matter how familiar she was with the game prior.
There were a lot of things that didn't tend to matter. Leaving the room behind her, and making a move to head back towards the common room, under the guise of not feeling well, her eyes had caught wind of a smaller crowd.
Only one figure she really had the slightest of recognition of, but was enough all the same to have her creep forward along.
"So we're doing some volunteering then?"
Where she was didn't come immediately to her. She only recognized the number of upperclassmen, and the faces of first years around.
It was usually them in the first place, that somehow found their way into where she held gobstone meetings.
